29 Faces Challenge - Day 29!

I can't believe I managed to keep this up, what a fun challenge this was!  Thanks so much Ayala for organizing it!

So for the last day I did two, I was just going to put in this kitty, but Soft and Fuzzy Johnson wanted in on the action too.  He was very sad to see the end of the challenge, as you can see, tears are streaming down his fuzzy little face:

Face 29, and Face 29!

Don't cry, Soft and Fuzzy Johnson!  We'll be back!

And here's the link to the rest of the challenge!

29 Faces Challenge - Days 27 & 28

I didn't get a chance to post last night so this is a double!  Two more of my little ink & watercolor drawings.  I actually had a different piece I had wanted to post for tonight (another graphite drawing) but after scanning it one of the eyes bothered me, so I'll try to fix and post it tomorrow for the grand finale.

So there they are!

29 Faces Challenge - Day 26

For today's face I'm showing something different - ink and watercolor in a much looser style.    I was (once again) looking through my under-utilized art supplies and settled on my rapidograph and watercolors for tonight's face.  I used to draw with my rapidograph all the time, I liked the loose feeling it gave my work.  Watercolors are something I've always struggled with, so this time I decided to try a different approach.

I really enjoyed making these (I did a couple more which I may use for upcoming faces), and if they're well received I might try working a little larger in this style as well.

I just realized that I've been neglecting to include the link to this challenge - sorry!   I've been using the new posting format here, it's not as easy anymore to pull stuff from previous posts:

29 Faces Challenge - Day 25

Only four more days of this challenge, I'm going to miss it!

For todays facial offering, I present:

Graphite on Bristol
2.5 x 3.5

Owley Johnson, again!

After seeing this on the computer I notice a few things that need to be touched up.  That's what I get for finishing this one by the light of "Hoarding, Buried Alive" on the TV!

29 Faces Challenge - Day 24, Monster Number 9

Hey!  Here I am!  Look, over here!

Monster number 9 looks suspiciously like a woman I work with, only with horns.  What's up with that?

29 Faces Challenge - Day 23

February 23 was Eggo's birthday, and while this isn't a portrait of Eggo, it is a portrait of a smallish dog, kinda like Eggo but not really.

29 Faces Challenge - Day 21: Pidgey

I'm doubling up today's face with a project for another art group I belong to - the theme for that was just "Birds."

Face 21
Pidgey
1" x 1.5"
Oil on panel

In case anyone's interested, I used Genesis heat set oils for Pidgey's little portrait.

29 Faces Challenge - Day 20 + Nibblefest!

I'm being lazy today and doubling up my 29 faces with my Nibblefest entry for this month.  Nibblefest's theme is "Moonlight":

Face 20
Oil on panel
2.5 x 3.5

"Reading by Moonlight"

Don’t you just hate when you’re sitting in your yard trying to read a really interesting story, and the stupid moon is reading over your shoulder?  It’s even worse when he starts making ridiculous comments and laughing at scenes that aren’t even funny.

so hate that

29 Faces Challenge - Day 19

I'll be honest, I don't even know what this is.

Face 19
2.5 x 3.5
Pastel on Stonehenge

I'm not completely satisfied with this little guy, so he's still a WIP.  But I had to post something for tonight so this is it!

29 Faces Challenge - Day 17

Pretty Kitty

Face 17
Graphite on Bristol
2.5 x 3.5

Sorry  I don't have much of anything to say about this one - she reminds me a little of someone I knew, but I can't pinpoint who.  That bothers me a little but I'll try to get over it.

I'm trying out the "new" posting format here, I'm not seeing the blue underline anymore (thank goodness!).

29 Faces Challenge - day 15

Another pastel!

This worried little deer is a WIP. I got caught up in doing other stuff tonight and all of a sudden it was 11:45 and I hadn't posted my face for today, so I had to go with it as is. I certainly hope I can find the time to finish up all these WIPs I've been posting.

This is another ACEO, pastel on Stonehenge.

29 Faces Challenge - day 14 Bostie Love

Won't you be my Valentine?

Please?

For Day 14 of the challenge I was a little short on time, so I figured I'd give pastel another go. I drew this Boston Terrier as an mixed combo of our two departed Bosties, Messrs Bone-f and Wiggles. I made it into a Valentine because a) it's Valentines day (still for about 44 minutes) and b) I love and miss those two little guys.

This is an ACEO, pastel on Stonehenge.

29 Faces Challenge - day 13

Here for day 13 I've painted Nuwitness, a little white cat we used to have.

Face 13
Oil on YUPO
1.5" x 2"

I'm not really happy with how this came out - it's not a very interesting painting, but oh well. I guess they can't all be winners.

29 Faces Challenge - day 12

I actually had another piece to post for today, it was oil on YUPO again but I guess the oils take longer to dry on YUPO than on other surfaces & I couldn't scan it comfortably.

So continuing with my YUPO experimenting, I tried Genesis heat set oils on YUPO and came up with this little fellow:

Face 12
1" x 1"

I didn't plan this one out much at all as I had no idea how the YUPO would react when baked, but it survived! I think I'm going to do more of this combo.

29 Faces Challenge - day 11

All caught up! Yay!

Face 11
little bluish bird

This is another tiny painting, it's about 1.5 x 1.5ish, acrylic on YUPO. I think I'm going to do more with YUPO, I really like it!

29 Faces Challenge - days 9 and 10

Here are my two Faces for days 9 and 10, later on I'll post day 11 and be all caught up!

Another thing I like about this challenge is that it's inspiring me to use some materials I never seem to get around to using. This first one is pastel on Stonehenge paper:

Face 9

Maybe he's really nice, but I don't think I'd want to see "Face 9" coming at me in the dark!

Next is another experiment, it's oil on YUPO, another of my favorite surfaces on which to paint, and also brought to you by the same folks who bring you Stonehenge paper!

Face 10

Face 10 is very enlarged, it's actually about 1.5 x 1.5 inches.

29 Faces Challenge - Days 7 and 8

Two more pieces for the challenge, I'm almost caught up!

First, it's everyone's favorite Chipmunk, complete with lunch-pail and diaper so you all can stop worrying now:

Face 7 - Lunchbox!

I haven't been mentioning the sizes here, but most of my 29 faces have been ACEO sized or smaller - this one's a standard 2.5 x 3.5 card size. It's graphite on Stonehenge paper.

This next one's much smaller - about 1" x 1.5". I used Genesis Heat Set Oils on a little wooden panel:

Face 8 - Future Violet

This is a portrait of my daughter Violet in a few years, wearing her BBG hat that I think she's going to have.

29 Faces Challenge - days 5 and 6

Today for my 29 Faces Challenge, I present two WIP's:

Chubby Bunny Holding Something

Lonely Panda

Both of these are mixed media on Stonehenge paper.

One thing about this challenge is that I'm not going to have time to write clever stories for each piece, it's all I can do to get them posted here.

On another note,

Does anyone who uses Blogspot know how to stop it from automatically underlining any text I write after inserting an image? This is driving me nuts!

29 Faces Challenge - days 3 and 4

OK I have two more for today, I'll keep posting double until I'm caught up with these.

Face 3 - Sea Monster

I didn't see anything about just doing human faces, so I hope these animal ones are ok. After all, a face is a face, or so they say. Right?

Face 4 - Alverd

Both of these are just graphite on rag drawing paper. Sometimes I forget how much I like just drawing with a regular pencil!

Here's the link to the challenge again, I realized that I bungled it up yesterday but I think I figured it out this time:

29 Faces Challenge - Late to the party

I joined this challenge a couple of days late, the object is to create a face every day throughout the month of February. The real challenge for me won't be in creating the faces but actually updating this blog every day for the rest of the month! I don't think I've had that many posts in total the whole time I've been here!

Anyway, since I'm starting late, I have two to post today:

Face 1

This one's technically a WIP, I had started her as yet another experiment in my ongoing struggle with acrylics. I wanted to try something completely tonal and then maybe add color later, or maybe not - decisiveness is not one of my strong points!

Face 2

This girl is just graphite on an interestingly flecked charcoal paper, something I would normally not use. My issue with this paper is the placement of some of those flecks., it kind of makes her face look blotchy and I see some things I need to fix, but oh well.

Here's a link to the challenge:
